August Mornings in the Garden

This August, Iโ€™ve fallen into the the habit of slipping outside at dawn to greet my gardens. The air is cool, the light is soft, and itโ€™s the perfect time to check on the blooms before the dayโ€™s heat arrives.

With this recent heat spell, Iโ€™ve been watering early in the morningโ€ฆ and often again in the eveningโ€ฆ just to keep my precious flowers happy. Sometimes, before I turn on the hose, I wander through with my camera, capturing favorite blossoms in all their glory. Later, Iโ€™ll turn those photos into a slideshow for my TV screensaver โ€” a little piece of summer that lingers long after the petals fade.

I thought about making a complete list of everything in bloom, but I suspect that might be more interesting for me than for you! Instead, you can see some of my favorites in the photos below.

The funny thing about being a cut flower farmer is that my best blooms often leave the garden in someone elseโ€™s bouquet. It means I donโ€™t always have as many flowers left to admire in the beds โ€” but thatโ€™s why I take so many pictures. Itโ€™s my way of keeping them with me, even after theyโ€™ve been cut and sold.

Do you have a favorite time of day to enjoy your garden?
